Prime Time Television
East Enders
There's nothing quite like a TV soap funeral to boost ratings and when a favourite character is buried with all the trappings of a traditional East End funeral, ratings go through the roof. So, when Ethel died in East Enders fifteen million people tuned in to watch her funeral and voted it "most emotional soap death" of the year. Ethel was taken to her final resting place in our glass-sided Victorian hearse, attended by two perfectly matched black Friesians.
It's by no means the only TV funeral we've supplied our horses and carriages for, but it is one of our favourites as it reminded us of our own origins and long tradition of creating dignified funerals for families in London's East End. For us, getting every detail perfect wasn't difficult. It was second nature.
War Horse
With memories of our own horses during World War Two still fresh, we were delighted when we were asked to help with 'War Horse'. Telling the real story behind the hugely successful stage play this became an equally successful TV documentary. Only 60,000 of the one million horses shipped overseas to support the WWI troops survived.
The Grave Trade
A documentary following the family run business, T Cribb & Sons, who re-introduced horse drawn funerals to London and now run a thriving undertaking business catering for multiple religions and more than one country. It's a revealing, insightful and fascinating look at the customs, rituals and logistics of burial.
